Family Fun: Paper Boat Race at the Lake
Over the bank holiday weekend, we enjoyed some relaxing time at home and also made the most of the sunshine by visiting our local lake.
It’s been a long time since I made paper boats and little man had never made one before, so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to teach him how to make some. I found an easy step by step guide on how to make a paper boat at wikihow: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Paper-Boat. As soon as I made the first boat following the tutorial, I was ready to teach little man.
Little man was amazed by how a simple piece of paper would turn into a boat. He had a lovely time making the paper boats and decorating them. I suggested crayons, but little man insisted on using glitter glue to make them shiny. As a result, the boats got wet, so we couldn’t go straight to the lake as they had to dry.
Once the boats were dry, we went to our local lake and started a paper boat race. It was a beautiful day with blue clear skies, perfect for our fun activity.
The boats were placed by the water, and the fun was about to start. Ready, steady, go!
Little man started by throwing the paper boats in the water and he was excited when he saw them floating away. As the boats couldn’t be carefully placed in the water, otherwise little man could fall in the lake, they had to be thrown, so some boats were upside down by the time they got to the water.
Little man’s favourite part was trying to guess which boat would sail quicker and win the boat race. We had a great time with our paper boat race, we’ve never done it before, but we will definitely do it again. We won’t be able to use the same boats as they were soaking wet by the time the race finished, but we will be making and decorating other boats soon.
