Half Term Fun: Spring Special at Willows Activity Farm
Our favourite farm, Willows Activity Farm, has another great event this half term. Visitors are expected to ‘flock’ to Willows Activity Farm during its Spring Special event to see their woolly sheep get their fleecy coats sheared off!
We have been to Willows Farm Village a few times and the whole family had a great time every time. They host Special Seasonal Events throughout the year, Willows Farm Village’s Christmas Santa Spectacular in December, February Frolics Lambing Event and Easter Egg Hunt last month.
This year sees the return of family favourite Tuck the Shepherd! Back by popular demand, Tuck is giving sheep shearing demonstrations, and making the flock feel a little cooler as the weather gets warmer.
We all enjoyed listening to Tuck explain how this traditional farming method has been used for years, usually in May/June, and give visitors a glimpse into this once-a-year farming activity.
We could also touch some wool after the Sheep Shearing display and we learnt more about lanoline (what makes wool greasy).
Tuck will be joined at Willows by, animal artiste Jema who will be bringing along her dancing horses and ponies to perform several spectacular shows. Her troupe of miniature Shetland ponies will showcase their fantastic routines, whilst the Educated Pony, Oberon, will astound crowds with his amazing knowledge.
Farmer Andrew said: ‘We’re delighted to welcome back Tuck the Shepherd to Willows. He is a great teacher for the children and it is fascinating for our visiting families to see how expertly he shears the sheep. I’m also really looking forward to giving a Willows welcome to Jema and her troupe of ponies- you won’t believe how good they are until you see them.’
Willows Activity Farm has a packed programme of fun and activity during the Spring Special event, including rides on Tristan the Runaway Tractor and panning for gold. We loved our bumpy ride on Tristan the Runaway Tractor, singing songs and looking at the farm animals along the way.
Little man loved ‘milking’ a pretend cow, I then had the opportunity to explain to him where milk comes from. The Run Rooster Run Show was another highlight of our visit, where we danced and sang along.
We also took part in ‘Falcon Fun – Bird Display’, daily at 12.15pm. If you enjoy birds, you will also like ‘Meet the Falconer’ at 1.45pm and ‘Hawk Time – Bird Display’ at 3pm.
Spring showers aren’t a problem either, as there is plenty of indoor play to be had at Woolly Jumpers indoor play barn, Toddler Town and Captain Chicken’s Egg Dodge. Luckily there were no showers while we were at Willows, just light rain. Little man enjoyed playing at Toddler Town while we all had fun at our family’s favourite Captain Chicken’s Egg Dodge.
We also stopped at the Farmyard to feed animals and handle a guinea pig. To top it all, the introduction of all inclusive prices guarantees a carefree day of fun and means that families visiting Willows won’t be ‘fleeced’!
Once again, we had a great time at Willows, the whole family had a fun-filled day and we can’t wait to our next visit! 🙂
Spring Special will be at Willows Activity Farm between 24th May and 1st June 2014. For more information about Willows Activity Farm, call 0870 129 9718 or visit www.willowsactivityfarm.com
