Little man loves helping out in the kitchen, and I truly believe that kids eat better when they are involved in the making process. My first ever blog post, published nearly three years ago, was about making family chores fun, in which I shared a photo of little man getting busy in the kitchen and helping daddy to make a fruit salad, aged just three.
Our son is now a little bit older, and we still get him involved in the kitchen whenever he is around. He loves helping with cooking and baking, his latest creation is a Jurassic Scene on the plate, inspired by the new Toca Kitchen 2 app by Toca Boca.
In Toca Kitchen app, you can choose and prepare virtual food for four hungry characters, little man enjoyed playing with food in the app. We had a look at the fun Toca Kitchen recipes online and were inspired by the Mashed Potato Mountain recipe.
We decided to create a delicious Jurassic scene with a mashed potato mountain, volcano at the top of the mountain with tomato ketchup lava, turkey Dinosaurs, sunshine kiev with carrot rays of sunshine and mini Broccoli trees.
Little man had lots of fun creating the dish, then eating it. Of course he had to play with his food in the process, take the dinosaurs for a walk in the sunshine and to eat some leaves.
You will need:
- Mashed potato
- Turkey dinosaurs, we used Bernard Matthews
- Mini kievs or something round for the sun, we used Bernard Matthews
- Carrots, thin sliced
- Tomato ketchup
Start with making a mashed potato mountain by spreading mashed potato on a plate. Add a couple of spoons of mashed potato to the centre of the plate and shape into a volcano.
Squirt tomato ketchup to make lava in the volcano.
Add broccoli trees to the Jurassic scene, and add turkey Dinosaurs around the plate.
Place a mini Kiev at the top of the plate to make the sun, and some slices of carrots around to make rays of sunshine.
Play with your food, and enjoy the delicious Jurassic scene!
